Simon is right, you haven't really experienced Belize until you have flown is the "puddle jumpers".
My first experience was in 2000 in a small 6 passenger twin engine high wing Britten Norman (sp?), my first trip to the island. That was when i decided that i needed to fly the country end to end
out of both airports. I'll always cherish those experiences.
However you need to do the CC water taxi at least once to experience the more common mode of travel to the islands.
Now that's some justification for additional trips!!

kirstykins, for what it's worth I have a friend who just took the island hopper over. She thought she'd be terrified, because she's afraid of heights and doesn't like flying. She ended up sitting next to the pilot in the 4-seater, and actually enjoyed it. The good news is, if it does bother you, it's a very short flight.

I'm sure the anticipation is much worse than the actual flight itself. I've taken puddle jumpers before up in Canada, but I was little & I loved flying then. Perhaps its just been too long since I've flown [about 13 years] and those unfounded adult fears have had time to settle in wink

Taking a small commercial flight in Belize resembles taking a bus on the ground. It's part of glue that binds the remotest (and not so remote) parts of the country together with the rest.

Maya's and Tropic's Cessna Caravans aren't bush league airplanes. They cost about $1m each and have state-of-the art avionics, communications, back-up, etc. They are very expertly flown and maintained at international standards. I don't feel any less safe in them than I do in a 747 plus the view is better.
