Big E -
It appears, but will be validated tomorrow or Monday, that PERHAPS the long overdue pkg from Spring TX has indeed arrived. I swear that is to follow is absolutely the honest truth.
Tues May 31 - KLC goes to PO....opens box and amidst all the junk mail are 2 "you have a package" cards. KLC goes to counter....offers cards. Clerk returns with one, unneeded, unwanted 5lb commercial phone book.
KLC: Is that it?
Clerk: Yes
KLC: Then why 2 cards with different dates on them?
Clerk: Hmmm I dont know, let me check....Oh, you have 2 phone books!
KLC: Great - Keep both of them.
Clerk: I'm not allowed. You must take them.
KLC: Recycle them/throw them away I don't care, I don't want them.
Clerk: I'm not permitted to do that.
KLC: Pretend I didn't give you the cards.
Clerk: But if I do that, then you'll get two more in a couple of days when you haven't collected these 2 phone books.
KLC: And happens if I just throw those cards away?
Clerk: Well, first of all, you could be cited for destroying government property and you'd probably get more cards.
KLC: So, as long as I continue to collect these cards and not pick up the phone books, I'll continue to get these cards.
Clerk: Yes
KLC: What happens when the phone book is outdated and a new one is published, which I also don't want?
Clerk: You'll probably get 3 or 4 cards.
KLC: How would anyone know I destroyed the cards and cite me for destroying governemnt property?
Clerk: You didn't return them so you must have destroyed them.
KLC: Maybe I lost them.
Clerk: But you already told me you were going to destroy them.
(Can you beleive this crap?)
KLC: Where's the Postmaster?
Clerk: On vacation until Thursday or Friday.
KLC: I'll be back. Are your sure there are no other packages, perhaps one from TX?
Clerk: No
KLC: NO, you're not sure? or No, there is no package from TX?
Clerk: No
KLC exits before going postal! (And deposits the 2 phonebooks in the recycle box, right next to the counter, 3 feet from the clerk, amidst outcries from clerk - those can't be recycled. They're printed on recyxcled paper already! KLC ingores crybaby.
Wednesday June 1: KLC goes to PO, no mail (Spies clerk thru window and leaves)
Thursday June 2: repeat
Friday June 3: repeat. Then KLC learns the mail delivery for today was delayed due to traffic accident. Late afternoon, KLC staff member must go to PO. KLC gives key, asks to check box. Staffer returns with 2 Phone books! KLC asks who was in PO. The PM is in, no clerk, is the reply. KLC picks up phone.
KLC: Mr PM, do I have any packages there?
PM: XXXXX just picked up your phone books.
KLC: Not interested in phone books, looking for a package from TX, mailed Priority on May 23.
PM: Hold on....nope, nothin on the shelf by your Box #.
KLC: Any possibility it may have been mishandled and on another shelf?
PM: Doubtful
KLC: Can you look?
PM: I Suppose(audible sigh).........(2 minutes go by)uummmmmmmmm, errrrrrrr there is a pkg here mailed Priority from Spring TX on the 23rd. I found it on the adjacent shelf. It's marked that we placed a "pickup card" in your box on Saturday. But you haven't come in to pick it up!
KLC: I'll be there tomorrow.
