I came to SP in 1974 and stayed 4 years. It was great. George Stefanko owned Ambergris Lodge,Jerry and Holiday. Fido's had a dance under the stars with "Los Malos".We had the trouble with Guatemala and HMS Cruiser, Puma copters, Harriers and the Scot Guards and Black Watch went to high alert. Maya Air was painted camo colors. Prince Philip visited on HMS Britania right after.BBC news at ten and Radio Belize went off air. So did town electrics. The Krugers owned ElPescador and their closest was Peter&Peggy Hancock.Jerry's Bar was washed out in the Hurricaine and he setup in a geodesic dome made from ferro cement bulit by Rayford Perry(dime store fame) it had a yellow light on top and some called it the Big Tit. Met Lee Marvin and Ernest K. Gann and Yvette Mimuex. Notable character were Bruce Birdasse, Duke of Shropshire and Founder of Men of the Trees. The Lioness of Africa flowed with chiffon and gin. George Ball and his wife leased Blake House (masonJars)and had a pet pig that greeted you at the bar.Steve Goodman wrote the song Down to Banana Republic as he played guitar at bars. I remember when he played it just before he left..it was about British Honduras and San Pedro. Jimmy Buffet recorded it and made it famous...but it all was written by Steve in SP.The time was magic.
