The bias of the Guardian's editorial is not surprising and is laid bare for all to see.
The "anti 9th amendement lobby' which consists of a large number of people in this country backed by The Bar Association (well what would they know about laws and constitution?) the Belize Council of Churches, the Belize Chamber of Commerce, senior statesman and Senators and many other bodies. Some lobby huh?
The other night the government had to pack a meeting with its supporters with minders denying entry to ordinary folk hoping to take part in a consultation. So much for consultation. Clearly the government is afraid to ask the people what they think. better to make a lot of noise and TELL them what they think.
And as for the suggestion that the Belizean people can leave the big decisions to the elected house, I presume the editor is referring to the bear garden that passes for the House of Representatives in Belmopan. Orange throwing catcalling and walk outs included.

The editor makes the frequent nieve assertion that all we need to do to end crime in our streets is to enact new laws. Preventative detention for instance. Just lock people up and deny them their rights.
We don't need new laws, we need the existing laws to be enforced which they are not. New laws will achieve no more than the existing laws.
I am quite certain that PD will re emerge as soon as 69.9 is passed. Then we will be well on the way to a dictatorship. Not perhaps under Mr Barrow but who knows who will follow him?
