On July 22, 2022, the Ministry of Blue Economy & Civil Aviation and the Protected Areas Conservation Trust commenced the last phase of a three-year project being implemented with the Belize Fisheries Department. The project is aimed at investing in the development of five marine protected spaces: Caye Caulker Marine Reserve, Bacalar Chico Marine Reserve, Sapodilla Cayes Marine Reserve, Glover's Reef Marine Reserve and South Water Caye Marine Reserve. The total investment for the "Improving the Management of the Marine Reserve Network" project was $1,150,000. The final portion of funds allocated, $542,275.29, will cover repairs and operational improvements in the targeted marine areas.
