The Mayan word Belix referred to the Fodor's article I posted so obviously refers to the inland river(s) that would naturally have silt and murk like any proper jungle river would.

To those who have not yet experienced the Caribbean Sea surrounding the cayes, please know that this water IS crystal clear and reflects sunlight off its surface in the most beautiful shades of blue/green/turquoise.
