i gotta throw my 2 cents in...

i realize how many hotels and condos are on the island now, but i absolutely HATE, HATE, HATE to see all the taxis and trucks and vans there.
my first visit to san pedro blew me away by how cool and quaint the town was, and the only way to get around was by golf cart or bikes...except for a couple of trucks that really were needed.
i know taxis are important for the resorts further out, but now people are just driving around everywhere. i SO wish that vehicles were not allowed in the town proper.

SO, walk to town, then rent a golf cart for a day and enjoy paradise as it should be.

sorry y'all, i just had to.

I'm with Mimi. We just returned from our 2nd trip to SP and am amazed at the traffic increase since last year. SP needs a traffic engineer to design a flow pattern that satisfies the needs of businesses and restricts/eliminates all other motorized traffic.
Vehicles on the beach don't help matters. Maybe SP needs a Dunkin Donuts to get the cops off the beach and out of their pickup truck:-)

If this ole brain is working correctly, there was an article in SP Sun a week or so ago addressing this very issue, with regards to delivery vehicles. The town is taking a step forward in the right direction, but I hardly think you can "restricts/eliminates all other motorized traffic."

The down side of walking from BB to town, and back, is all of the bars in between.

yeah, all those bars. one right after another. you can't just pass them and not stop for that infamous one drink, that would be unsociable. and then of course they'll be having 2 for 1 happy hour specials, which are so enticing.
3 other ladies and i walked that strip after dinner last year, going back home to the palms.
had a blast. turned out to be a nice little pub crawl...from what i remember.

To answer your headline question, yes there are scooters (rather than mopeds) to rent. The new internet cafe at Fairdale Plaza has a number of new ones.
