So the Mayoress tells me the bridge was approved last week and will be installed shortly to compliment the cobblestone street project.

It really looks good. Big improvement over the riverbed of mud and potholes.

Well, my vote is for Paisano, to be part of the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Who's paying for the bridge?

We were told by several locals last week that the street paving stone project has been entirely funded by contributions. I know that kind of thing doesn't happen in LA very often; maybe San Pedro is different.

Couldn't agree more about the street project - the finished product looks great. By the way - what's going to be on top of the pedestal in the middle of the traffic circle in front of the San Pedro Supermarket?

Anyone willing to voice their opinion about the pros and cons of the bridge?

Is the bridge going to be in place of the hand ferry? From a tourist standpoint, I loved the ferry. How will the boats get through?

Pros:
Easier access to and from north side. Much easier to get back to town from a night at Hammock House or Palapa Bar....

Cons:
Possibly one more thing that's a loss of character for San Pedro - we love the hand ferry.

Increased development pressure north of town

Increased traffic on the cart path.

The manmade environment is usually less attractive than the natural one.
