the "gateway to the north" if you have ever been way up north you can see that it is left almost untouched meaning the beaches are lined with palms trees, and the jungle is very dense. this is the way the south end of the island was many years ago, i am just wondering how long it will take before all the land is cleared, and the majority of the palms are all gone. i am going to say oh about five years or less (its a scary thought) to look at all the pristine nature, and then see it all changed forever.

RE: casa de amor What I like about the north of the island is the type of residents it attracts. Most of the home owners like to leave a lot of natural vegetation around their homes. They plant palm tress where there were none before. I'm sorry to say that a lot of the property is being bought up by developers who are building condominiums instead of single family homes. So, everyone who loves the lushness and wants to save it buy a lot and let it sit! I know I will get some flack because I now own a condo on filled land - well - it is for sale. I've bought a lot in El Tesero and am building a house with lots of jungle around it.

Good thing the Bacalar Chico Nature Reserve forms the majority of northern Ambergris Caye. Whatever future development happens, I sure hope they leave the palm trees like Banyan Bay, Ramon's Village, Victoria House, Caribbean Villas, Pelican Reef Villas, Xanadu Beach Resort, Banana Beach Resort, etc....

Was down over this last weekend, the bridge looks like it will come in on time. They were working on Sunday, I believe, ramps almost done on both sides. I am in negociation with some,I think it was Boatyard Tom, just over the bridge, nice guy, and very freindly, to start the new Corona Freeway, should sign contract first of year. Should be complete by end of 2009, well maybe 2015. The island was getting very busy. Nice to see changes. Also visited Sueno del Mar, a fantastic project, the best in the north. Ate lunch at Portofino, great place, and excellent food. Went to Calander Girls party at Fido, good turnout, bought some signed calanders for Christmas. Looked for Jesse, could not find him.

As a condo owner at Pelican Reef Villas, I am not sure about the context of the remark about the south end of AC. The developer at PRV took great care to move palm trees that were in the footprint of the condos and place them on the beach area or around the pool and added others. All developers and developments are not the same. Some folks still care about a balance between development and environment.

I glad to hear that the bridge is almost done. But what about the roads to the North. When we were there in Oct, the roads were so bad that it was almost impossible to drive to town. Are there any plans in place to fix the roads to the South. Or at least make it so the roads drain after a good storm? What good is a bridge if the roads are no good??

I look at it this way. The bridge was the first phase to get thru, now it will open up the way for improvements to the road. First things first, next would be to, at least start the process of grading the existing road, so it is usable most of the time. This would require home, land owners to start to encourage the local gov. to think about next phase. This will happen in due time, and if done right, we can make a difference, as how it will look and also, the least impact on the land, and those who oppose this next phase.
