Tourist - wannabe resident.

Last week was our 4th trip to AC - from the first day of our first trip, we fell in love with the island and its simple lifestyle. Not a week goes by that we don't talk about the joy of being in San Pedro and look forward to returning. And on the last day of every trip, I get totally bummed out about having to return to the pressure, politics and pettiness of corporate business.

We would love to retire to AC or Caulker, but until we do, we'll be back every year. And every year, we'll be grateful that San Pedro isn't for everybody.

Laazzyy, while AC is one of my favoured destinations, thanks for your provocative, informed, and frank observations.

Hey... I'm 20 and a college kid and I went to San Pedro for spring break! Not Negril, not Cancun, and I didn't cause any problems. I have been to AC twice in the past four months. I am trying to graduate so I can work the rest of my life and retire in San Pedro (sounds depressing when you put it that way...)

It is kind of amazing how we tend to identify with one group, and they point out the inadequacies or annoyances we have with another group, when that other group is most likely doing the same toward our own group. College kids/non-college kids; cruisers/non-cruisers; europeans/north americans; all-invclusive residents/non-ai. I include myself as a particpant in this sport, as in previous Playa del Carmen vacations my wife and I would spend time picking out europeans, all-inclusive residents, and cruise shippers. I have a belated new years resolution, on my first trip to SP this May I am going to try and retire this habit. I will attempt to view everyone I come across as an individual and mock them for their indiviudal characteristics rather than their group characterstics - wink

RIGHT ON....People need to take criticism a little less personally...LAAZZY had some fine things to say about AC, he is also entitled to his opinion

Regarding my impression of college kids. Around the same time every year (spring break?), the tourist population of many areas swell immensely. The young adults, American for the most part, from about 18-22 invade en masse. The majority of them drink a lot, sleep till noon, party till sunup. I would venture to say their vacations are paid for by their parents, as people of this age who are not students have better things to do with their money. I have seen many of them injure themselves through their own stupidity, and quite honestly are a major nuisance to those not of their particular age group. All this while claiming to be the best and the brightest. I am amused by this but prefer not to be around them. If you are a college kid and this does not describe you, you should not be offended.
Reaper, when I was 19 I was in the far east, and I could outdrink, outcuss and outfight the majority of the college kids.

I'm just checking in as a tourist and an ex-19 year old.

Bobber - Sounds like some of the people I travel with - funny most of them are over 40 - but they do pay their own way!
