Pass on the anti-sarcasm pills! That's just silly! Do use sunscreen though...

Take each day as it comes regarding power, water and phone/internet. Regardless of what is currently happening they are things that come and go!

Have a wonderful time in Belize ~~ you will.
Look forward to your trip report. cool

Lan's comment may have sounded sarcastic but it is obvious that the BTL problems will affect almost all of the tourist industry.

Sorry, my sarcasm was uncalled for (and untypical of me, I hope). I apologize.

But with things falling apart in Belize -- the riot last night in Belize City could very well have a SERIOUS impact on the country -- things are not going be trotting along as usual.

The political and financial crisis in Belize, which anybody who has followed things for even a few weeks will be aware of, IS going to impact tourism. It IS going to impact the economy. It IS going to impact real estate and development.

Riots since Saturday? at least in BZE city at the BTL office.....was in Chetumal til Saturday so didnt know about this until then.....we get "yesterday's news" on television here in SP, so hard to keep up

Power off on Tues evening for about an hour, and on Wed for about ten minutes.....teachers are now joining in.

Tourists? most wonder why .... biggest aggravation to them seems to be that no one has been able to explain all this to them, and they have no clue.

If I were tourist in US, had never been to Belize, and saw this on CNN, I would cancel my trip.

This has hurt us here in SP tremendously. The worst part of it, from my perspective is that it will have lasting effects....word of mouth....i.e., "I went there and there was no phone service, internet, etc., riots, " to those thinking about coming here. This could go on for months and months.

Emails from folks two or three days later, asking for rooms during time when internet was down. Lost revenue.

Unfortunately, most of those who have the beef with govt, (whether or not you agree with them), do not have the ability to see the long term effects of all this.

Have to remember that this is only a 23 year old country. Reminds me of the states in early 1900's when labor unions first formed.

DONT WORRY GRACE

THIS IS JUST 'LAN AT WORK'

OUR PHONES WERE NOT OUT FOR 5 DAYS...JUST ONE DAY WHICH WAS FRIDAY. FROM SAT ONWARDS WE HAD LIMITED PHONE SERVICE WITHOUT INTERNATIONAL CALLING UNTIL WED.

WE DID NOT HAVE RIOTS LAST NIGHT IN BELIZE CITY. WE HAD DEMONSTRATIONS - STUDENTS AND ADULTS. IN ONE SPOT THEY BLOCKED A BRIDGE AND BURNED SOME TIRES. THERE WERE NO INJURIES.

AMAZING HOW SOMEONE CAN FORECAST OUR FUTURE FROM ALL OF THIS!!

There is unrest at this time in Belize... and that is also lightly said.
Read more than just this board to find out information.

The news for instance.

And on the lighter side - the weather is absolutely perfect, gentle breeze, a little cloud cover, light chop on the sea. Great day to fish, snorkel and sunbathe.

See you on the beach!

Oh darn, we DO have internet, email and telephone services - I guess I'll have to work after all.
