If you live in Texas or other states you have to worry about the West Nile Virus from mosquitoes. No where is "safe" from all things. Go enjoy & do not be paranoid. If the pica pica find you, oh well, the experience will be worth the consequences. smile

We've got Hantavirus up here. I guess I'd better leave home.

I've got an idea! You pay for my flight and I'll go all over the island and hang No Pest strips for you.

I was just there last week, didn't get bite once in San Pedro. If you're worried about Malaria, then take either chloriquine or Malarone. Better be safe than sorry.

As for Pica Pica - use Safesea. I went snorkeling at Hol Chan & Shark Ray Alley and it was fine.

Dont worry...Go there & Have fun!

I was paranoid for a couple of hours and then it went away...hmmmm...oh well. I can't wait to get there and get paranoid again.

If you're on Ambergris Caye the only thing you're likely to catch is sunburn. You'll get bitten by sandflies around dusk, but I've never heard of anyone catching anything from them. And although I don't drink tap water (don't like the taste) lots of people do and I've never heard of anyone catching anything.

But do use commonsense. Make sure you're protected against Tetanus and Hep A/B. No need for anything against Malaria on the island, or even most places inland. Do try to avoid getting bitten, though.
