In its day, Pan Am was a great airline, one of the true world pioneers in aviation. The company using the Pan Am name and logo now have zero to do with the original Pan Am.

It was announced today, as expected for a long time, that US Air and America West are merging. The new entity, which will carry the US Air name, has secured or will soon secure about a billion US$ in financing and funding from Air Canada, GE, Airbus and others, so I think it will be operating for a while!

That's good news for Belize, as US Air provides major lift to Belize, and with the addition of America West routes in the Western U.S. perhaps the Belize connection will be enhanced.

Just watched the 6:00 news here and the BIG story is the merger between local hometown America West and US Air.
In a live satellite report from Sky Harbour, one of our local Paula Zahn wanna-bes was going on and on about the merger details, and who would benefit and who would take a hit, etc.

When she got to the "traveling public part" of her script she said,
"...and this merger will give those of us in Phoenix a chance to travel non-stop to places in the Caribbean like Jamaica and to erotic Central American destinations like Belize...."
So the camera cuts away and back to the anchor desk where Ken and Barbie are busting a vein in their foreheads trying not to laugh into the camera.
The Mrs turns to me with this scary look in her eyes and says,
"damn, how many more days?"

I must be one of the few people who has never had trouble going through Miami (except for 09-13-01, and that's a different story). Even coming home from Cuba was a breeze. I figured there would really be a 'shakedown' in customs, but they sort of waved us around and out the front door. I guess they figured if you were in Cuba legally there was nothing to smuggle out.

JeanH we go through Miami and have never had a problem. The only time we had nightmares was Houston.
