Thanks for that info Chris, I knew some of history but not as much as you've offered. I've only known Paisano for a few years so I never did get to see his old side. The Paisano I knew was always a kind person to me and always was always gracious whenever I gave him a ride, a smoke or a couple of bucks. He would often talk well of the older San Pedrano's as we drove around. I think you're right that as his time drew to a close he must have seen the error of his ways and in his own way was trying to make some amends. A saint he certainly wasn't but I'll bet he'll give Satan a good beating with that cane on his road to redemption.
One year when I had been working with TMM down in Placencia for a month or so, one of the first places I dropped by after coming home was BC's for a beer. I few minutes later I felt a hand on my shoulder and turned around to see Paisano, the first words out of his mouth were "welcome back". I was really touched by the fact that he even knew that I had been gone as I had never told him I was going off the island. It was one of the things that really made me feel that I was a part of the community. I will forever cherish the kind words he had for me on Friday when I last saw him.
Thanks to Short, I never new his real name.

Habib's = Paisano's birthday is August 7th, I can't remember the year. Rest his soul, peace now to locals who were very afraid of him (many), and bless his family! I have a small conch shell he gave me on our last visit to the Island and it's very special to me and always will be! Let him rest... and god bless.

SIN....Thank you
Paisano will Thank you too since he must have been forgiving.
To those that crapped on him when he was going down. Someone fed him the 'stuff' to keep him in his lower frame of mind. Someone made fun of him when he showed himself publically.
Someone made him delight with a good meal and good conversation.
Someone made his life more bearable. Someone must have seen good in Paisano like I did! There's good and bad in most people. Find the good and see it even if it's not given back.

Look, as true as much of what your wrote is...the point of the matter is this thread was to inform of his passing on and those to comment on their memories. It is really, truly sickening that you are writing this on this thread. Perhaps you should have started it elsewhere. The man lived long, his time came to pass on, many have fond memories, others remember the other things. Perhaps this should all be dropped.

spl, fair enough, I will remove all of my posts on this thread. Except this one.
3rd January: I will add one point and that is that by his example Paisano saved many children from drug addiction in his later life. For that and his love of life even as his body and our society failed him, I offer my heartfelt respects.

Ole' Paisano, still gettin' to us...even from beyond.
I only hope my life has as much color, I would choose a happier ending though.
