I'm not looking to steal the thunder from Pedro1's thread about the best restaurants. The general consensus seems to be that his top 5 are rather pricey. What restaurants, in your opinion, are the best reasonably priced ones, and which ones offer the best value IYO?

Papi's - and for real bargains try the little stands in the center of town - if you're only gonna splurge once - it's gotta be Casa Picasso!

I heard that you can get a whole chicken at Ali Babas(sp)? It serves a grest meal for $7.50 plus extras. I'm going off reports, I will check it out this summer..

Ok, I'm in: I love Mickey's Beef tacos, to the point of the occasional dream about them. I Frequent the food stall closest to the street for a burrito and a fanta regularly. The paleta man from Manelly's and I are on a first name basis--as long as you assume my name is "Coconut?"... I can be found, when otherwise MIA around 2pm, sitting on the patio at Ali Baba's dragging chicken through hummus and reading my book (from ---since this is the plug thread--- Barefoot Books, probably) Lunch at El Divino is always good, and perfect for hot and/or business-y days. They have great ceviche--long cut (maybe on the slicer?) that is so good I eat the fried tortilla bowl when I'm done. At Manelly's they've got the frozen cappucino machine ready by 11am..right when the first cup from Monkey bites is wearing off. Pineapple from the lady across from Ramon's is the perfect snack for my Ramon's beach time. therein is my current diet. They don't feed me much at work ( ) Chris Casa Picasso

Remember when Jambel Jerk was all the rage? Whatever happened? We often take out lobster from Mickeys Place. I swear the tails are, and always have been twice as big as, say, Jambel Jerk...usually everything comes in very large portions....bon apetite.

I hate it when I agree with SIN Papis, The Reef, and the pineapple lady. It was almost impossible for me to pass by the pineapple lady without getting some.

Fantasy Garden is a favorite with the folks whom live and work here. Fantasy is across from Milo's Money Exchange and offer great food all day long. Breakfast is avail. at any hour of the day. The sat. BBQ is my favorite.
Annie's in the Jaguar Temple building has some great stuff too, chicken puffs, stuffed jalapenos, cheese and chicken dip. Local stuff - we love it!

Caramba's coconut "anything" is great, IMHO.
SD - IIRC, Bluewater Grill also occasionally has sushi...but then I could be all wet.

And Blue Water Grill has easily the best key (or should that be caye) lime pie I've had in Belize. Wonderfully tart (and I'm not talking about the pineapple lady).

For breakfast I liked Rubies. If you are going to dive in the morning you do not want to eat a large breakfast, and Rubies was great and cheap.

Caliente's Lime soup - served only at lunch - to die for. Best fish & chips on the island can be found at Hamilton's just north of the cut. Rojo's - way up north - Conch pizza!

Last night we ate (take out, the place was jammed) at Mango's for the first time in ages and the food was excellent. Had the Caribbean Spiced Chicken Adobo for $25BZ and there was plenty to split between the two of us. I don't know what the dressing for the salad was (possibly Mango-Lime Vinaigrette) but Amy should bottle it.

For reasonably priced, I would put Ali Baba at the top of the list, you get not only dinner, but breakfast and/or lunch makings for 15BZ. A point about some of the more expensive places: the amount of food is very generous, usually leaving enough to take home for a snack, or breakfast. This is what I do at Taste of Thai and Blue Water Grill.

Nothing like Estel's Dine by the sea for early coffee & Breakfast. I find that what you order makes more of a difference than where you eat. Of course fish, chicken, or rice & beans are going to be cheaper than steak or lobster. Eat what the locals eat and it will be cheaper. Also easy to pick up groceries and enjoy some meals at your hotel. Speaking of Hotels - what about the Holiday Hotel Beach Bar-B-Q and the Lion's club Bar-B-Q? They used to be the best deals & meals in San Pedro. Belize it!

Ali Baba's is top notch stuff. The Lebanese Sandwhich is killer!
Antojitos, close to Banyan Bay and just across from Marina's (San Telmo) is equally awesome. I eath lunch there everyday for $US3.50 which includes some of the best chicken and beans (no rice, low carb diet) on the island. Good stuff!
They had pork chops and baked potatoe for $US5.50 today!

My home away from home is Caliente's...very nice reasonable lunches. My fav...Holy Mole Polle, or Chicken Enchilates (SP) in Mole sauce. Its got chocolate, baby!!! Also, Elvi's Kitchen has a very reasonable, nice lunch special for about $7US. Lets see; Monday; Chicken Kabab, Tuesday; BBQ pork chops, Wednesday; Conch Fritters (too die for my friends), Thursday, don't recall, Friday; don't recall, Saturday; Whole Fish (usually Snapper). When in San Pedro, my nice meal is usually for lunch...more reasonable on a retiree's wallet, and in the evenings; its street food. I really like Lupita's on the town square. Food I trust...which is a big plus!!!
