airport security is constantly being tested. You
may think it's petty, silly & temporary, but there are others counting on these new rules to be just that. A lighter can make it thru in the change in your purse - can't be distinguished from the coins. You should be concerned with what you're getting away with, because someone else is getting by security, too.

I just flew in on Sunday. It was funny to see that although we were not permitted to carry water, juice, lotion etc. Folks that bought liquor at the duty free were permitted to carry it on board and down to Belize.

So, you can most likely purchase your tequila at duty free (so called secure area)- don't open the sealed package and you can pass it through customs in Belize. If for some reason the customs guys confiscate it - you will have contributed to their hangovers the next day!!

By the way, my kids came in from the UK on Saturday - whole other story. The customs over there tipped out peoples purses, picked out their passports and cash, placed those items into a clear plastic bag and dumped all of the other items - cell phones, ipods, laptops - all in the trash.

Keep up to date with the regulations - and you won't be disappointed.

Have a fantastic trip to Belize.

Maybe we can covert you into a rum drinker!

Toronto on Friday. Any beverages served at any of the snack bars, and this is after going through security, had to be poured into cups before serving. No bottles, not even plastic ones.

Desertrat: that is just my point - it does concern me that these items are supposed to be banned and get through, making me wonder what else is going through undetected. That is why I made my comment about the TSA people. The are lazy and inconsistent. I still think our security system sucks here in the States.

Great feedback, truly appreciate all these observations and tidbits...LaurieMar & Law-we had a pretty expnsive "torch" type lighter confiscated in San Diego flying to Houston a year ago, hubby forgot he had it on his pocket but they didnt care about the cigar clipper. In NY one year earlier we had one of those clippers taken and wondered exactly how we could threaten anyone with it? "put your finger in this hole and do as I say!"
Glad to know about the duty free liquor option, thanks Amanda just for that tip my first drink will be a rum punch! How does rum go with beer? See all the important things I worry about? 59 days and counting.....

The TSA people are paid $8-$10 per hour.

I read where some duty free shops stopped selling liquid items so as not to cause more problems for the already stressed traveler. (I guess that probably depends on the airport/airline and many other factors - time of day, person checking etc.)

This inconvience will weed out the "meek" from the "die hard" travelers.

I am determined now more than ever to get to my "top 5 destinations" not yet traveled. laugh

I heard that because airports are losing so much money from duty free shops not selling in some areas that they may "pass it along" to the passengers to make up the difference. Sigh. confused

I'm always so damn cold on the plane. I'm generally so bundled up people look at me funny . . and I'm just old enough not to give a hoot.

I remember coming back from SP one time, and since I was freezing, I pulled the hood up on my extra large Chammyz and tied it up under my chin. I'm sure I looked like Mama Smurf.

I was sitting next to two older teenaged boys. They had one helluva time not laughing out loud, but there was lots of elbow nudging and hidden smiles. I had to smile to myself at their good manners.

I'm wondering if duct tape will be allowed as a carry on item.
