Check out wikimapia.org - very cool site where users can add tags of locations to Google Maps (basically Google Earth on the web) I started adding a few sites to San Pedro... fill some more stuff in and give a yes/no approval to existing ones. Use the zoom tool on the left side and drag the map around with your mouse. To add a new place, use the "wikimapia" link top left and check "add a new place" http://www.wikimapia.org/#y=17923454&x=-87961049&z=15&l=0&m=a&v=2http://wikimapia.org/country/Belize/Belize/San_Pedro/gives a bit of breakdown for specific places.

Wonder how old this view is. It doesn't show the new bridge. Also, have they built a new facility where the Hideaway used to be? Looks like the old pool is still there.

Wow, that was quick. About 25 locations mapped now.
As with all wiki projects, this one provides a community voting system that verifies the location once many people have agreed. When you move the mouse over a location and it says "upcoming", click on it and vote yes/no as to its accuracy.

Over a hundred listed now, too bad the North end isn't shown. This is a great reference tool for tourists.
How about a sticky for this Marty?

Why is the north end a blur on the map. Is there a way to "focus" it? If so , How?

i could be wrong, but i think the water plant is mislabeled. i think that is one spot north, and what is listed as the plant is the medical school...not entirely sure though, but if you look one lot north you can see the tower (i think)

Could be Law, I have to get all the alcohol I consumed in San Pedro out of my system, than I will have another look. Maybe my right eye is still drunk.

The water storage and tower are just north of there.

This aerial photo series is around 4- 5 years old, judging by the missing buildings and land clearing.

Great site and lots of fun. Here's something to check out. In finding my house in n.e.Ohio I printed the image as close as I could get. Just by chance I looked at the printout upside down and found much better clarity and visual. The photo was taken from the north looking south.

It takes a while and $$$ to get the photos updated. The area North of the cut is the lower resolution for a few miles, then it gets back to the better resolution. Some of the very recent google map stuff is good enough to see small boats (25 foot??) on a lake: < Lake of the Ozarks Map >

For those of you that prefer the much faster Mozilla Firefox over IE, the Wikimapia link works good with the latest update V 2.0.

Not all areas of the map are in high resolution and the views are usually way out of date (by years sometimes) -- but it is still a great tool.
My own town was the blurry low resolution until about 3 months ago and then it got real clear - still pic was a year old when added.

I've started adding photos to the locations marked on the wikimapia link. Hit several so far... bridge, the reef restaurant, palms, el patio, fido's sandbar and several others.
I would encourage others to do the same. Let's get a good visual representation of each of the locations and show everyone how much fun San Pedro can be.

Hey...does anyone know of a satellite/wikipedia map that has decent resolution for the area of the island between the Cloisters and that "North Ambergris" map? (covering the Journey's End, Mata Chica, Mata Grande area??? Every one we've found is blurry there...we want to try to find "our place" LOL!!!

Hello I am looking to get to know more about the area... We are building in Reef Village... and wanted to more about the island. I grew up in the Bahamas, live in South Florida and will be frequenting down very soon.. I can see you weathered the storm pretty well... hopefully none will come my way this season. I am very interested in the layout of the island....and exploring other parts of the country... When things settle I would love for someone to contact me.. and send me information.

Why is the north end a blur on the map. Is there a way to "focus" it? If so , How?
Reason is that not all images worldwide have been saved in the high resolution mode as of now. I know that it was all blurry around my home in Upstate SC until sometime this spring and then, bam!! But then I noticed that the pictures were at least 2 years old.
So, it is great but it is not real time or always "in focus"
Hope that helped!!

This Wiki Map is extremely useful, and aside from the north end of the island (which will probably be a blur to me as well) alot clearer than I expected.
Does the bridge that goes across the cut close at any time at night?

Yeah, it's marked. zoom out, locate Belize city. Go straight east from Belize City, past Turneffe atoll, to the next mass.

Hi All!
I'll be visiting with my family in June for our first time to Belize. We're staying at 18 Degrees North, which I understand is 6 mi. N of SP, close to Mexico Rocks and Costa Maya Resort. I don't see any of these marked on the map - would somebody please be so kind as to mark them so I can have an idea?
Thanks so much!

Not so many marked places up north because of the lack of detail - even if we marked it - it would be a box full of fuzz.

Hello everyone. I'm a newbie here with newbie questions. Have been to the Caribbean in June but never Belize. We are thinking of staying at Xaman Ek Retreat & Spa. Trip Advisor rates it high and I see not poor reports on the place. Has anyone stayed there or visited it? Can someone point it out on the map i've moused over most all the boxes and can not locate it.

Villa Del Mar is located just north of Mata Chica Resort and south of Playa Blanca Villa. About 5 miles north of San Pedro Town.
Casa Tortuga is located in the Holiday Lands area of town about 2 miles south. Just south of Victoria House Hotel and north of Tara Del Sol condos.
Both homes are lovely.

Hey folks. My name is Thomas and I am new to this forum and completely confused on how it works. I ask a small favor of anyone who happens to read this. I am an U.S. citizen who is planning to move to Belize. I am in the early planning stages and need advice i.e. Which coastal city is the best to live in? where are the amenities available. Looking for a simple life with simple employment and none of the stress of my life now. Anyone who can offer some advice please contact soco813@yahoo.com.
Thanks in advance,

Casa Tortuga is extremely luxurious and romantic. Peggy Mason, the owner, is an absolute doll, and she has one of the best cooks on the island on staff. Do it. Forrest

I can't figure out how to edit the "property lines" (and other stuff). Someone has messed it up around Portofino, and other places.

Coco Beach is on the wrong side of Belizean Shores. Don't know what Essence Way is? That property used to be called Kingsbury, which is now marked way north.
Wonder what happened?

Kingsbury is between Coco Beach and Belizean Shores \ Kingsbury is the SandyPoint property that has now changed into a Lakeside villa sort of resort plan. Impressive if they can pull it off. HP

If Sandy Point has taken over Kingsbury they would be the group capable of getting it done. Last time I talked to Doug about it Kingsbury was trying to get Sandy Point to take over the property but it hadn't happened yet. It must have happened in the last year or two as it's been over a year since I've been up there on a regular basis.

I am not sure if it is Sandy Point but definitely a Penland group has taken over the Kingsbury and it is now being advertised as the Venecia.

Hello John 1966...There are a couple of ways to get to the island; small aircraft and water taxi.....We have always used Tropic Air. They monitor incoming flights with their reserved passengers and always make planes available even if your flight is delayed. Take a look at www.tropicair.com ....Of course you can always swim....(Just kidding)...

It would help others who have the same needs as you had. Thank you and I hope you enjoyed your trip.

Usually a blurry area on a google (or other)image map (satellite)it means that they do not have close up imagery at this time.

Good News! Google Earth updated some places recently. I don't know what is the percentage, probably 0.001% : ) How i know? I just checked my property. We clean the front land for the construction 6 months ago and now it shows it is clean.

Habeneros , 10 mile. Before it was full green. Now this is exactly how we cleaned (February). We built a pier on March but it is not on the map.

gloriaas1 this thread is old and some of the information here antiquated. We have better roads and a bridge now. Ocean Tides is in San Pedro and close to the airport (about a 5 min. cab ride at a cost under 10 dollars). Cocobeach is across the bridge and a little out of town but paved road all the way and about a 20 min ride in a cab for about 30.us or less. From Ocean Tides to Cocobeach you might like to use the Coastal Express from Your dock to Cocobeach dock every other hour at a cost of 5. usd per person.

It is a hard surface, not concrete, to Playa Del Sol which is about 10 miles north. Electricity ends just north of Tranquility Bay.
