i tried thatch cabanas at 2 different places (ramon's & journey's end) and was pretty disappointed. they tend to be small, sometimes buggy (they crawl up thru the pipes), and you just cant keep the sand out (even in your bed). i was awoken by the beach-cleaning staff (tho they are quiet, i am a light sleeper) at 6 am.

after 4 trips, i like the condo-tels much better. that is my voice of experience. honest, i am not high-maintenence, but i really disliked the water taxis too. being at both & the middle, i like south best. esp for the seclusion with easy access to town. i still vote for caribe island. JMHO. (c'mon, didnt you look at those gorgeous pics??!!)

We stayed at Ramons in March and thought it was a great spot. We had an oceanfront cabana right on the beach. The room was small but we didn't spend much time there. All the cabanas are situated in a lush jungle type environment, giving a sense of seclusion while still being on the edge of town. If your looking for somehing bigger, check ou Belizean Reef( //ambergriscaye.com/bzreef/index.html ). Our friends who came with us sayed there. They had a one bedroom condo for about $120 during high season. Very clean, spacious with a hugh balcony overlooking the reef. It's only a couple buildings north of Ramons so its close to a nice beach. See pics on my web.

dont want to beat this horse too much more, but CI offers free bikes, and i thought golf carting around was WAY more than half the fun. (tho your drink spills a little!) if you like to be near the action, the palms is nice too.

Caribe Island = long hot bike ride to town. mobunny

I am with KathyMLT about Banana Beach.
Wonderful people and fun atmosphere. Very easy to get in vacation mode from the minute you arrive.
Next trip (very soon I hope) I will definitely stay there again.
