Yes Ernie, I was on a much needed escape. I took my two youngest with me which didn't make it quite so much a vacation, but I'm lucky enough to have local friends who welcomed us with open arms and made it possible for us to afford a visit.
I must say it was very eye opening for both of them. When the Sere or the pig tail didn't sound so good to them at first, they quickly learned that there were no snack foods in the freezer as an alternative! They eventually opted for the pig tail or they waited to eat until the next morning!
Hauling rain water in daily to drink and bathing from a bucket were other good lessons on conservation. I think every American child should experience Belize like that. They both missed their dad and pets, but they're already telling me that they wish they were still there!
Me....I love to go to Belize for just those very reasons. I think perhaps I was born in the wrong part of the world
