Well, Marie was in bed with Louis's twin brother Lewis who was 2 years older than his twin Louis. All of a sudden one of the man servants ran in all out of breath and yelled, "they are out of bread" obviously referring to the throngs of Paris banging on the front door.
Marie, sipping from a newly created champagne glass briefly looked up and said: Qu'ils mangent de la brioche" meaning "let them eat cake"
Under no circumstances should this be confused with the also infamous: "...have their cake and eat it too" staement.
Now my head hurts and I need to lay down.
