IMHO..Maybe the decline in family values comes from both parents now working down in SP trying to make ends meet (in the US its the keeping up with the Jone's Syndrome and the kids are spoiled out of guilt) and no one is home to watch the kids and keep track of who,what and where.

I remember reading here on the board awhile back that families USED to meet at home for the family meal but most don't now and this in part was why the School Lunch program fundraising was started.

Kids learn by example give them a positive role model that mentor's them and lets them know they can be ANYTHING they want to be and then help them at least get thru high school.Capt. Jeff is a fine example of that from what I read,when I see he pays for the local boys to go out on the boat for a day of fishing with him and I am sure there are many behind the scene things he has done for San Pedrano's.

Be a positive example and keep the kids busy.Idle minds will not stay idle for long they will just go in the wrong direction..

Kids do still go home at noon for a family meal. Most businesses close down during the noon hour so everyone can go home and be with their kids. It's a fine tradition. The local kids are not the problem.

So..If the local kids are not the problem then a good house cleaning of the island and then a police presence on the boats and planes monitoring the incoming peeps asking what their intent is on the Island could feasibly resolve a big part of this problem,am I correct???

From what I read in the Chamber meeting notes, progress is being made. The rally looks like a successful event, people are banding together to address the problem and the rhetoric, at least, appears promising.

Kudos to those coming together to deal with the issue. That's what'll fix it--local support and full community participation.

It's up to SP to make the effort. No one else can (or will) do it for them.

Great discussion going here. I'm glad San Pedro is taking the steps they think they need to fix a growing and inevitable problem - criminal activity.

Being an officer of the court here in the states, I can definitely relate to Law, Vicki and Denny's comments. Change will take a long time.

A sign posted in Singapore airport states if you are caught with drugs while there, the penalty is death. Extreme? Don't know, but bet its a big deterrent.

The death penalty is a touchy subject. Personally, I believe some crimes do warrant the penalty of death. If Osama bin Laden is ever apprehended, why should he live? Serial murders, rapists, etc. There is a place called the Mariana trench, near Guam, which is one of the deepest places in the ocean. I say dump here in the bottom. The world needs more fossil fuel.

Look at the OJ Simpson trial. What a circus and a disgrace to the legal profession. Yeah, I think he is guilty and got away with murder. He had a stupid, stupid jury and lots of cash.

not to mention proseutors who were more interested in playing to the media than proving up their case and key witnesses whose pasts undermined their credibility
