When I retired from the bench and came to Texas and began two computer companies, I did most of the hiring. During my "welcome" interview, towards the end of the "welcome aboard speech", I talked about stealing. I don't mean pens, pencils and junk... I meant software, etc.
I told them
ahead of time what would happen... I would fire them, call the police and inform anyone I knew, in the business, that they were fired for stealing.
In the entire time I owned the companies, I never had to fire anyone for stealing... and believe me I would have known.
