sir isaac, guess you didnt see that K-Y is allowed smile .

laurie, boyfriend just did same as you: gave up $$ at new job in exchange for more vaca time, and specifically requested 2 strait weeks next year so we can attempt to see SE asia.

barb, you are right too. whenever we tell folk where we've been or where we are going, they are like "OMG _ you are leaving the country??? aren't you scared?? i would never go there" or "arent the people there violent? you might get killed! i hear they hate americans!" etc. americans are totally ignorant (in the true sense of the word). they have no knowledge of the outside world, no concept that people are people everywhere, and that travelling expands one's mind and experience.

so, rhonda, that is why everyone up here go to the jersey shore...most think we are nuts to travel out of a 200 mi radius, except for orlando or vegas (where you would never catch me again).

even when i first went to bz in '93, someone told us at the aqirport in texas that belizeans will cut off our hands to steal our jewelery (no shit, she really said that), and we might get killed. well, you guys know how it turned out...

now that we are on our second lives here, we decided a few months ago that there will be no more living to work anymore, we work to make just enuff to travel more. life is too short, and i have a LONG list of destinations!

Did I hear my name called Jane?? smile I think you meant Rykat in regards to the Jersey shore comment. I live in the Pocono's as you know and I know all about tourists smile I believe it's what you are used to. Some people are just fearful and if they could only step outside of that box they might see what they are missing. This is a well traveled group on here and so the thought of little or no vacation doesn't sit well, does it?

rhon, u r right. i misquote people and mix them up all the time anymore (an age thing??). nice to hear from you though. yeah, bet you get your share of tourists. we went to jim thorpe a few weeks ago and it is dead there in every sense: nothing to do, nowhere to eat, and no wildlife. not one bird except for a lone crow. weird. i assume you are east of there.

no, i agree most of here would go nuts if we couldnt vacation or travel. maybe we are more open minded? i dont think of myself as terribly brave, but once one goes abroad, one can see how easy and safe it really is. i will never give it up. all very interesting.

SJ: That was Law that gave up $$ for more vacation time. Not possible in my office, unfortunately, but then again, I have to work to save to go on vacation!

i mixed up twice today??? sheez, maybe i really DO need a vacation soon!!

hey capt, is that mostly cruises? as an independenttraveller, i question this cuz i get the impression(U.S.)americans are more willing to cruise as they think they feel they are safer tucked closely near other americans. i suppose tour packages are similar? we saw most westerners in turkey get off their big busses, see the sights all together, then get right back on their airconditioned bus, never stopping to converse with one single turk. just a curious observation.

anyone?

Mooooooooo!

I did the same over in Isreal back in the 80s. A guess something safe and reliable as we had no internet and relied on first hand experience or travel agents.

But now I know where I would like to go back and visit someday as we did get to see the entire country including The Kingdom of Jordan.

I hear cruises offer the same type of opportunity while keeping the sleeping and eating experience "safe" for the wary traveller.
