My favorite word starts with an F, and ends with a K and I think 'u' can 'c' what's in the middle. Is that profane ? I use it with descretion, consider the company that I'm in.

whenever i use what some call "the F word",, i spell it phuck.

Law, according to Wikipedia (cite that to the court, ha ha), crap is a minced oath. A minced oath is an expression based on a profanity which has been altered to reduce or remove the disagreeable or objectionable characteristics of the original expression; for example, "gosh" used instead of "God," "darn" instead of "damn" and "heck" instead of "hell". I think your client's word choice was an effort to avoid using profanity. If he wanted to be profane, he would've just said sh**. I guess profanity, like obscenity, lies on a continuum. I think your problem is that your client's word falls pretty much in the middle of the spectrum between sh** and, I don't know, dung, droppings, feces?

where does thomas crapper fall into all this?
rl - good point. he knew the real word, but chose to avoid using it. i still agree w/ law's defense. sounds airtight, based on the CHARGES. (JMHO as a layperson)
