I have often seen and heard Varella's barge getting stuck going in and out (over the past few years) That is a small barge. I would think it would be impossible for them to use a larger barge without dredging.
It would make sense in offering the existing barge operators a stake in the back marina to encourage development there and not kill our "Golden Goose called Hol Chan"
How about entry exit thru the garbage dump area - is that possible? I know some time back there was talk of moving the dredge sand stockpile and dredging operation to that area.

The cousins and inlaws have been here and will be here and their grandchildren will grow up here, while folks have moved on to greener pastures. I would think after watching their island change from a coconut farm to a sleepy fishing village with no problems to booming resort town with mutliple problems brought on by tourism, they do have their children's best interests at heart, like keeping them in charge of their island. They are not as cold and ugly as you may think. Spend some time with them and educate yourselves before you cast judgement on the people that build the island that you so love. Without them, you may as well be in the Florida Keys.

I particularly don't like big smelly load trucks running about the island. I hate driving in their exhaust and dust going to work or on my way to a night on the town. I cringe at the thought of one of our many children getting hurt by the same. The barge is not a pretty site out on the water, making noise and clouding the sky with black smoke. I don't care for the air planes making noise south of town from 7AM to 6PM (I bet Cayo Espanto really hates them). I know George Parham (decendent of Blake and Alamilla) hates Jaguar's being next to him, the barge being in front of him. I know the Catholic Church has always had issues with Fido's and Big Daddy's. They were here first, long before visitors discovered this little jewel of an island. If we stay here longer than a week, we all have to put up with many inconveniences as things change in a developing area. Fortunately it's all temporary. Dredging is not a good thing and should be avoided, it must happen in certain circumstances. After Hurricane Mitch, the entire north side of Ambergris reclaimed huge tracts of beach, by dredging.

I can't wait till we are all built and polished up nice. What and island it will be! Never the same as back in the day, but still a great place to live.

Are you saying that dredging would be alright in this instance since they are of the influential people in town, or is it ok because they were here first?
Half of what you say is Hog Wash. The only point you keep repeating is "we were here first" That has nothing to do with destroying marine life for ones own benefit. It will also hurt the fishermen who fish in this area every day. (I believe they are locals)
The only one who has cast judgement is you. The local people we deal with are always very helpful and polite. We have many local friends and they agree with everything we're saying.

Local as in born San Pedranos? Doubt it. Because' people are polite doesn't equate to them allowing you to dictate what happens to their island.

People fail to realize that the islanders have more respect for the sea and reef than we do, as in foreigners. If they allowed no development in the begining we wouldn't find ourselves faced with this issue. So they have a complex problem to deal with. The sea has provided for them for years. I highly doubt they are going to mess things up for their future generations.

I understand you have a personal stance in this as you live next to the future site of a loading area. Despite, things will move ahead. You'll get over it or you can simply go back home if you don't like the way things are done here.

"Progress breeds problems" Rt. Hon. George Cadle Price, expect a few years as the island expands in all directions.

I agree the sea has provided for them for years. However Eiley's isn't "them" and they (the Eiley's) will be the ones messing up the sea (as you put it). I guess you don't get that. Its too bad you only make statements without validity and won't answer questions that will make you and "them" look bad. You only come up with stupid allegations and make no sense.
I wonder how many potential Time Share people have read your responses and if they still plan to buy?

New Blood is something we don't necessarily have to reproduce to get. As much as I like Elsa Paz and the current town board if they don't stand up to renegades like Eiley, electing New Blood in the form of persons not influenced by relatives in business on the Island is a solution. The voting population of the little fishing village of San Pedro has over the last two decades been infiltrated with a voting population of persons not born on the island. I voted for Elsa's party but given a choice right now of some candidate I wouldn't worry about being 'nepotisticly' influenced. (thats two new words in one day)
I'm going to sign off now and rest.
