Not particularly. The water was distinctly green, and very murky.

Scuba lady your on to something there. Folks are always asking 'Where are we going today?' and I try to be as evasive as possible with an answer like, 'Diving! or my mother sure dressed me funny this morning'... because truth be told, the Divemaster makes the final call when he sees who's in the boat and decides what the experience level is of the whole and what sites the divers have visited already, then balances that with what the tides, currents and visibility are at the site. I usually don't complicate his job by saying a site name, he gets irritated with me adding just one more factor in his already complicated job...unless of course were on the internet.

Esmeralda... I'm guessing this is probably the most dived site. Mostly because of the close proximitiy to the cut and the nurse shark pit that is usually the first stop. However, there are many ways to go after that stop that makes this dive very diverse. Saw a huge eagle ray on one visit and always see plenty of green morays.

Depending on conditions and divers' experience and preferences, there are superb sites all along the reef. Some sites are better at certain depths than are others. We really are just talking about different spots along the same reef, which is intrinsically fascinating because of the base coral formation. I've never seen anything like it anywhere else in the world. Although some of the wall dives on the atolls are lovely, with the best I know being Half Moon Caye Wall, there are lots of good wall dives around the world but very few spur-and-groove coral formations. We are very lucky.

Elbert - you are so right no. A good dive master gets to his/her first choice of sites and depending on a lot of things decides to do it or move on. I like operators who will not tie up where another group is already down. Visibility can change is just a short distance.
Pedro 2 - I totally respect your input but would differ with you on only one issue - I think the dive sites along the west of Long Caye at Lighthouse are totally amazing and seldom dived. Everyone knows about Half Moon Caye and the Aquarium - both premier - but often miss other great sites.

I agree about the sites on the entire west side of Lighthouse. A shame they're so rarely visited.
