Did you ask if she is quoting US or Belize dollars? You may be having a problem because of your date. When in February? One of our big events "Boogie in Belize" takes place in early February and you may be running up against that.
We rented a bunch of stacking chairs from the Lions Club for one of our functions. You may also try Wet Willy's. Again, it depend on if they are having an event.
You sound w-a-y too stressed for it being almost six months away. Please don't feel like people are taking advantage of you. If you feel that way you may create a hostile relationship. I think you will find the people here helpful and mostly fair.
I second the motion about using Dulce!

Jessie--I'm getting married at Xanadu on Feb 2. (I hope they didn't double book our weddings!! How awful would that be.) I did not realize they weren't going to provide tables or chairs. Who is your caterer? Xanadu quoted me a ridiculous price for catering, so I ended up going with the advice of the people on this board and hiring Susanna Eiley from El Fogon to do a pibil. She is very reasonable. I've also worked with Dulce and she seems great. Send me a personal message...we should compare notes.

Oh and by the way, looking back at my messages from Susan, she quoted me $7 a chair for the ceremony. I guess I just assumed they would have tables and chairs for the reception.

She has told me that she did know of some pastic chairs that were cheaper, but she has told me several times that they were cracked and very bad shape and I would not want them for my wedding... even after I have told her several times I do not want to pay $10 for each chair or $400 for 40. I could buy a plastic chair for $10 each in the US, let alone rent one.

Did you get a contract on anything and put down money on it when you were first quoted the prices? Things do go up in price and I know it is hard to get some items on the island. You probably have to figure in it costs them money to transport the tables and chairs and have workers they have to pay to set it up and take it back. As far as you paying $10 for a chair in the US many things in Belize are much MORE expensive than in the US! They have to import items. You will see! Good luck.
