Largest member of the rodent family, but they are herbivores, eating only greens.

GOB is curently trying to get farmers to raise gibnut commercially. But they are hard to catch alive and raise in captivity.

Villages in Guatemala are raising free range gibnut...they are underfoot like pets.

eeewwww - I'm not sure I want to try that - It's the rodent thing- not sounding appetizing. Is this really common and readily available? Not that I will be ordering it - just curious.

Up near Banana Bank a few years ago, I saw my first gibnut. It was in a cage above ground, like one would keep a parrot. At the time, I assumed it was a pet. No one in the family disabused me of the notion, though when I think back on it, there were some little half smiles.
A fish and a bird can fall in love, but where will they build their nest?

Well, I don't think I could eat one, but I could make a pet of one. They don't look like a rat. www.belizezoo.org/zoo/zoo/mammals/gib/gib2.html
