Prostitution, Violence, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

One hundred and thirty people working as prostitutes in San Francisco were interviewed regarding the extent of violence in their lives and symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Fifty-seven percent reported that they had been sexually assaulted as children and 49% reported that they had been physically assaulted as children.

As adults in prostitution, 82% had been physically assaulted; 83% had been threatened with a weapon; 68% had been raped while working as prostitutes; and 84% reported current or past homelessness.

S&S….. all I was saying is that we, as humans, make choices. Right or wrong, but we still make decisions. Spitzer obviously made a bad choice. At least in my opinion he did. But what underlying circumstances turned him to make those decisions? Was it a "power-play" the "I'm invincible, so no one can touch me?" or was it something else…That is what I'm more curious to find out. But alas, no one will really know the truth…..since we are not in his shoes, or his wife's shoes, all we can glean from this is what the media is throwing out there. And I wouldn't give you 2 cents for the media version on anything. I'm not condoning what he did, I think it is wrong, but he's not the first man to have the "God Complex" nor will he be the last.
