I suspect shes got an egg. Usually she leaves if i get close but this time she won't.
The woodpeckers presence in a coconut tree killing the tree is a fallacy. I've watched this tree with its 4 woodpecker holes for 6 years and it seems to only look better.
This bird on Ambergris Caye I shot this morning is a Golden-Fronted Woodpecker, Meanerpes aurifrons both male and female have red mustaches.

Pecking tin roofs makes him feel good. The male likes to make a big noise to show virility. Nothing like us at all :-)

yes,, same bird. well,, not exactly the same bird as mine lives down south here.
they may know each other tho,,meet up at weddings, family gatherings and such.
