i have seen Pepe in action 3 times now and each time was the same as you describe. it is obvious who pays his salary.
the process is slanted twords the developer from the onset.
and i have watched the developers stand in the back with the smuggest of looks on their face as Pepe addresses concerns brought up.
i have been soured by the whole concept. to me it is nothing but a joke, an insult to the community.

To be fair, I wrote 'if you oppose or are for' I would never tell someone what to think or what they should stand for.

Just semantics JZB. Clearly no-one is going to take what you, I or anyone else says as an instruction! But IMO there are many unanswered questions, some of them not even asked, and this whole project reeks of jerrymandering. After last night's fiasco I now have a deep distrust of anything associated with Mr Pierce, because it is clear he will do anything to get his way (and what he believes to be his millions, because after all this is just about Jeff Pierce's personal wealth). Anyone who believes any of the philanthropic claptrap must be unbelievably naive.

Thanks for all the info and Shuffles for the call while the meeting was on.

I can't help but wonder how do big developers think they will continue to earn money when they are not protecting the natural beauty that is what brings people here in the first place.

(I got caught up last minute decorating for a surprise party and could not make it to the meeting)

After about 20 minutes I was hyperventilating (a little clausterphobic) and had to leave. I could actually hear what was being said better from the park. My first impression (not of words, but of the situation) comes straight out of the movie "Norma Rae", so if you've ever seen that movie and you remember what happened at the meeting when the workers tried to vote in the union, you have a decent picture of the situation.

disclaimer: i am not a resident of SP, and have no say. my opinion is only that of a repeat visitor.

tg, i mean this nicely...but does anyone think the kind of guests that would stay at a place designed like south beach maimi, complete with neon & glitz, set up basically as an 'all-inclusive' ('why leave the compound? we have everything you need right here at SB'), care about the eco-tourism? the sun and palms will still be there for them to see on the website photos...you cant "see" the damage below the sea (including possible diminished fish populations).

i am disappointed in the assessment of the meeting, but by no means surprised.

oh, one question. anyone have any idea if any or approx how many of the non-english speaking workers currently (before being hired by SB) reside in SP?

I would even further that question SJ and ask how many of them are Belizeans..................

"i have seen Pepe in action 3 times now and each time was the same as you describe. it is obvious who pays his salary."

I have always found his terminology to be curious as well, i.e., "WE will be moving this......WE will do such and such"....

same language he used at the meetings on the giant resort that was planned a few years ago up at Bacalar Chico.

Who the hell is "WE"?
