Skippy,

I only left "stupid" out of my response as even though I assumed it would not be read, I was pretty sure that including "one of the most absurd and stupid things imaginable" would have insured it.

Mexico has required fishing licenses for a good while now. Granted, many of the fisherman there are going for the big game fish. Nonetheless, the fees are structured something like $ 8 per day, $25 per week, $37 per month, or $48 per year. All fees stated are in usd. This certainly makes more since than the simple daily fee that has been discussed. Many of the Mexican fishing charters quote the fees but state they are subject to change without notice. Maybe when the airfare to get to Belize is as cheap as that to Mexico, fees might make sense. In the meantime, as was stated in a previous post, we are certainly all struggling...

I keep seeing reference to a "Sport Fishing License" : Is this just for Permet/Bonefish/Tarpon, or for jacks and BBQ fish for also?

It's rarely rocket science, it's usually just math: then again if you can't do the math.......

My understanding is that it will be for anyone who gets on a boat to fish. I suspect that it will not apply (why not?) for anyone who throws a line off the side of the pier.

Jesse may have just found away for the town to balance the budget, make everyone who eats fish in the restaurant buy a fishing license. Be careful for what you wish for.

This is the way it works at the Marina Del Ray in California on the tour fishing boats. As the crowd gets on board a head count is taken. The boat heads out and everyone get in line to pay for the trip and shows/displays a fishing license. No license you pay for a one day license about $8. and then you display that. Want to rent a rod another $8. So after your done for one person with license, rod and trip cost it's about $60. and your fishing with about 60 people or so. They have a great little galley grill with a good cook who has a great memory and he takes all the money for everything and sells the beer and runs your tab. Before the boat docks you go pay your food tab. He doesn't have time to take money while he's cooking and shoving out beer and soda.

I think that Jessy and the rest of us will all need fishing licenses, not for fish, but for reactions!! grin
