I think he was just a belligerent drunk who was just demanding some more money for more alcohol.

Thing is, if he'd just been a nice or funny drunk I probably would have bought him another.

But when someone threatens a man's child they are stepping into dangerous territory. I guess most all dads will stop short of nothing when protecting their family.

Jesse, do you have any enlightenment for me on the apparent absence of government security at night?

That said I would like to wonder out loud why I saw BDF soldiers with rifles just hangging out near the airport during the day but not a sign of ANY soldiers, security guards or police in or around Central Park (or anywhere else we went) at night. The resorts have their securty guards out at night but that was all I saw. No government security seen by me at night 4 nights in a row????????????????????????

You can find them in droves most any night after 1:00 until closing outside Big Daddy's or Jaguar's. Before that, check outside the Playa Lounge, Tacklebox, or any other bar in town after around 10.

Before anyone replies about how great the BDF police watch is here, let me say that this is my experience. Maybe others see more than a stray passing of an officer other places, but I haven't. Maybe I'm actually blind, jaded, or just plain stupid.

4 nights is not many nights on the island. But like I said, I didn't see any after dark.

As everyone knows this was Valentine's day Sat. night. Central park was packed.

I just think I should have seen the police and or BDF patrolling that area heavily Sat. night.

Thanks RMT. I'm glad I wasn't hurt either. hee hee

It still burns my butt, that I went up to Front Street, right after the guy and there was a police officer, who claimed to have not seen anyone running. Standing right there, where the thief ran up, police didn't see anyone. Yeah . . .

Thanks spl. It wasn't really horrible *for me*, but that is because I wasn't physically hurt and because my wallet didn't have a whack of money in it.

It is horrible that the nature of this sort of thing has come to San Pedro.

The cart guys are making quite a bit more money off of me than they ever did in all the years before combined, so I guess there is an upside. wink

The story of someone demanding money from rich kids because they can get away with it reminded me of my youth, sort of. I went to Cathedral Latin High School in the 9th grade and rode the bus from South Euclid to 105 and Euclid. Across from Latin was John Hay High School. 95% black and of course in a all black neighborhood. This was in the late 50's. We knew the right way to the bus stop and would have no trouble because it was more or less controlled by Little Italy. But if you went out the your area you were on your own. The boy's from the hill kept the black's in line and would not allow any crime in their controlled area against white or business people. There were riflemen on rooftops almost all the time and some of those old timer hunters were quite the random shot.

The BDF are soldiers and not an extension of the Police Force, and it's not their job to Patrol the Steets for day to day crime. The Police should, and very often do, have a presence in and around town at busy events but there aren't enough of them to be everywhere. Try and see both sides of the coin.
