My wife and I visit the island at our own expense 40-50 days each year.As christian prison evangelists in the usa, we work with locals on AC. For example, last Friday we spoke with a group of 35 men about AIDS, drug abuse and growing up without a father figure. We have worked with young prostitutes who are in situations beyond their control.Next Monday, we will show Fireproof, a good movie on marriage @ Living Word Church, on the leeward, near Pedro's.We have spoke at Hattieville and have an open invitation to return.Two years ago we wrote Marty, asking if it was proper to post a letter here asking for support, knowing many don't share our beliefs.Marty thought it was a good idea, so we did.There were over 450 people who read our letter and not one person donated. That is fine, we still support everyone elses causes and know that this board does many good things on the island.Keep donating to your favorite causes, this island needs people like you.David & Joyce Nisbet Open Door Evangelic Ministries

Keep up the great work Scuba do and Joyce all the things you listed are so needed - many of us we have our main area(s) we tend to focus on helping it and is nice to hear that other much needed areas are getting attention as well.

This is the thread where I asked a similar question before our first visit:
//ambergriscaye.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/90754/1.html

We took five or six boxes of library supplies on our first visit, as well as a cord needed for the only printer the library had at the time. It had been donated but never used due to the absent cord. We ended up selecting that as our "cause" and have continued to take supplies to them on every trip. (I think I'm at about 17 trips now.)
We picked the library partly because, as Pam noted, it serves all of the children (and adults) on the island; but probably even more because of the very personal connection we feel to the public library system. Both of us grew up extremely poor and learned to love reading at a young age, as it was one of the very few "free" forms of entertainment. We both feel that love of reading eventually had a positive impact on our lives in ways that few other things could have.

Everyone has their favorite "cause" and all are worthwhile for different reasons. Good luck on finding yours! smile

Leah-Ann Thank you for formulating so well why I am passionate about the public library. When you see a child finally realize that all the books in the library are theirs to read, one at a time, it is priceless. At first they don't get it but when it sinks in..... We now have the TWILIGHT series for teens and really want to get that group to use the library. Thanks to all of you who have supported us.
