Taking a pot shot at your competition?

Factual apart from "Placencia has better beaches".

I disagree and think that is subjective rather than fact or fiction. Placencia has dark rough sand that is hard to walk on and really hot. I have never seen the water colour even closely resemble San Pedro's, and never seen that Blue Sky Blue Blue Water shot that San Pedro almost always has. Brown mucky looking water due to river run off and dark sandy bottom. You get the great looking water out at the Cayes and Reef but not at Placencia. I never feel the water calling me there like it does here.

I have seen the water blue and beautiful in Placencia many times and in many places up and down the peninsula, especially at Maya Beach

Currents usually run North to South. South Stann Creek, Cabbage Haul Creek, Sittee River, North Stan Creek. When they run South to North you get Big Creek, Mango Creek and several others that empty into the lagoon.

I haven't and that's what I said. In Placencia I doubt you have seen water like it is in San Pedro most days, which is also what I said.

Placencia vs Ambergris. Is it OK if I like 'em both?

Course. I do. It just bugs me when I continually see people say the beaches are better in Placencia and I dont think they are so put my view out there too.

People may "go" to Belize for the beaches their first time, but they return for the people!

And, really, what is the point of a good beach? To lay in the sand? Nasty! To sit on a chair in the sand?? Maybe... I look at em as a nice border on what I really want, the water! So If I can walk across it, good beach, if it is also purty, great beach! If is also blessed with mobile scenery, it must be San Pedro!

I have never been to Placencia so my favorite is Ambergris hands down!!!!

I really appreciate this conversation immensely.
Placencia is very cool charming people, same for Hopkins ,Cayo,Ect. San Pedro just makes sence! We all have ups and downs and some tend to blame the island,Belize..... The grass is always greener on the other side. San Pedro has a substantial amount of services backed by one hell of a community! The island is 15 minutes away from life saving help in Belize City. I went to the doctor for treatment, left at 8am and was back on the 10:30. First went shopping market, grocery, doctor.Air cost was like 65 bucks, what is your time and convenience worth. my 2 cents

Keep the feed back coming. Since the road has been under construction its been a tempting thought of relocating.Always looking for a better place, but keep ending up here!

the beach in Maya Beach (8 miles north of downtown Placencia)
it is calm like this 50% of the time at best. the water is real shallow, 5ft. deep out about 5o yrds so it gets churned up easy.
but when it's like glass, it can't be beat!

i have not been to A.C. for 15 years but i remember concrete seawalls. none of those on the peninsula. you can walk into the water everywhere.
i also remember A.C. being more crowded 15 years ago than Placencia is now.
that means there will be much more going on, more options.
the reef is further away so snorkle/dive trips are full days trips with lunch on a caye somewhere. usually a bbq with another snorkle stop after lunch somewhere on the way back.

access to most other mainland trips is obviously easier. the one drawback is to get anywhere, you have to travel the same section of bad road each time to reach the southern hiway. (this if you rent a car and do yourself. some tours leave from Mango creek which is a boat ride from Placencia.)

the road is now a super hiway from the point all the way to M.B. and they are working on the rest.

both location have their good and bad,,,see them both!
