I am an amateur radio operator. My daughter, Amy Wruble is with the FOX crew on Ambergris. There is a hurricane "net" operating now on 14.325 mhz. I am able to monitor it, with difficulty, from New York City. I will report what I hear, if relevant. One station in Belize, in a village named "Scotland", abt 7-8 miles from something that sounded like "Berle Boom". He is operating on batteries.
At 0900 EDT, he reported
"Very strong winds at 0700Z (0300EDT). Now winds from NWN at estimated 35-45mph with stronger gusts. Barometer 29.78" and steady. Major rain. 13.3" in 48hrs, 12.48" past 24hrs, 6.65" in past 9.5 hrs."
Another ham in central Mexico reports having spoken by telephone with his daughter in Belize City. I was able only to copy "Still heavy rain. Winds down slightly and shifted in direction towards the ocean"
I have passed my email address to some of these US hams asking for any info on Ambergris Cay. I will continue to post what I learn here.

Actually, I have NO INFORMATION on my daughter, so if anybody hears, please don't assume I know anything about her. I am VERY worried.
Have a new report as of 0920 EDT, ham on Cay Caulker reports "major damage" but his house is ok.

Brian -
I'm sorry, I misunderstood. However, I called the US Embassy at (202)647-4000 it's the task force#. Fox had called them with a list of people who did leave the island and the ones still there they haven't contacted yet. The man's name was Rick Dowell. He also gave me the number for Fox - (323)806-6526 and ask for David Yost. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the clarification.
I am now monitoring 14.265mhz, for those of you who have access to a short wave radio. This is a Saturn Emergency Net run by hams. There have not been any responses to calls for hams in the affected area in about the last 30 minutes. About 30 min ago, a ham from Cay Caulker checked in to report "major damage" his house ok. I will stay glued to the radio and post the relevant stuff here.

In the last few minutes, a message was relayed from Cay Caulker asking for food and supplies. No further info.

Another msg relayed from Cay Caulker -- 60 mph winds, structural damage, trees down. No info on injuries.
Sri for so little, but reports are few and far between.

Recent report re: Ambergris. Winds 20-45kts,light rain. Winds have moved from NW and now from NE. Sea levels 6-8" (INCHES) above normal. Damage on island severe to heavy, mainly on leeward side because of wind direction from NW. {sic -- I don't know where this comment places the leeward side, but I would assume this means the bay side vice the ocean side.} No Power. No telephone communications. Only communications via a mainland vhf marine radio repeater. This report from a staion in Gallon Jug. (don't know where that is, assume mainland. Anybody know?)
