Barry Bowen lives in San Pedro and owns Chan Chich resort in Gallon Jug. They have radio set up from San Pedro to Gallon Jug. May be best source of information.

Addition to my last report -- not insignificant -- just reheard it:

"NO CASUALTIES"

I think we must assume that the sender cannot really know this as communications within Ambergris are probably not good. But -- it is better than anything else I've heard.

Brian, any idea how to get onto this wavelength?
=============
The good news is that they have had indirect communication through Belize's National Emergency Management Organization with a ham operator on Ambergris Caye.

There is not much activity, and unfortunately, my setup in New York is not the best. If you have a short wave receiver, monitor the Salvation Army Emergency Radio Network (SATERN) on 14.265 mhz. There is also a hurricane related net on 14.325mhz, but it is handling traffic related more to the storm and less to health and welfare of those affected by the storm. I am trying to hop back and forth between the two, but have heard little in the last hr. or so.

If there is an opportunity to really learn something, I will break in and ask them for the info. At the moment, I believe 100pct of what they are getting regarding Ambergris is coming from a radio operator on Ambergris in SanPedro talking to a ham on the mainland who can get on the air and relay to the states when he can get a sufficient charge in his batteries. That leaves us with no information from the northern part of Ambergris where a number of the FOX crew are. A channel separates the two, and it cannot be crossed in the storm. That is also how they get diesel fuel to the hotels in the north.

I think the above is reasonably accurate,, but I am piecing it together from a number of different sources.

I just passed this URL to hams operating the SATERN (Salvation Army Emergency radio Net). They may begin to lob in relevant submissions more directly than I am able to.

I will stand by to assist, in any event.
