President Clinton to Skip Arkansas Free Clinic, Blames Olbermann for Politicizing Event

By: David Dayen Friday November 20, 2009 1:45 pm

Bill Clinton told FDL's Eve Gittelson that it would be problematic for him to attend a free medical clinic being held in Little Rock, Arkansas tomorrow because MSNBC's Keith Olbermann had "politicized" the event." He indicated that some were turning the event into a primary kickoff against Arkansas Sen. Blanche Lincoln.

Tina Fey Does Sarah Palin At Ad Council Dinner (VIDEO)

While hosting the Ad Council Annual Dinner Wednesday night, "30 Rock" creator Tina Fey brought back her famous impersonation of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.

"Mrs. Palin and I continue to have so much in common," she said. "They recently made a porn movie about Sarah and then this same porn actress, Lisa Ann, played me in a parody of '30 Rock' ... And weirdly of the three of us, Lisa Ann knows the most about foreign policy."

Palin Booed By Book Tour Crowd

Unhappy fans of Sarah Palin went rogue on the Alaska Republican during her book tour stop in Noblesville, Indiana on Thursday.

The local Borders outlet had handed out 1,000 wristbands to book purchasers; the wristbands were supposed to procure fans Palin's signature on their hardback copies of "Going Rogue." But several dozen people who had been promised signatures were turned away empty-handed after waiting hours in poor weather, a local news outlet, the Indy Channel, reported.

"We gave up our entire workday, stayed in the cold, my kids were crying," one man was quoted saying. "They went home with my wife. She was out here in the freezing cold all day. I feel like I don't want to support Sarah."

Sen. Wyden wins big healthcare concession

enate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) have taken a long stride toward locking down the support of Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.).

The three senators announced an agreement Friday on an amendment that would allow many more people who get health insurance at work to opt out and instead purchase coverage on the new health insurance exchanges the bill would create.

Sarah Palin Plastic Surgery — Did She or Didn't She?

Is Botox part of her stimulus package?

Sarah Palin is promoting much more than her new best seller book, Going Rogue. This week, ladies — take a look at her refreshed new face. At age 45, Sarah could easily be mistaken for a very young 35. Could this be due to better rest — no more John McCain! — or one or more procedures she's had done since giving up her governorship?

You betcha — so say several skin care docs. Though not extensive, Sarah, like many busy women over 40, may have gone for some less, non-invasive practices.

"Sarah might have had Botox around and in-between her eyes, forehead, lower third of her face, and the neck," says Dr. Neil Sadick, Medical Advisor for Christian Dior Beauty. He also suggests that Sarah could have used a simple laser, such as Fraxel or IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) "to change skin color and make the surface more even."

"She probably had Botox to her crows feet, frown lines, and possibly brows as well, " agrees Dr. Steven Pearlman, past president of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS). "She went to someone good who is very skilled in Botox. She looks very natural, but without lines, and maintains a bit of movement when she is making expressions, unlike half of Hollywood."

The only area that Sarah still needs to focus on a little bit more is her neck.  Says Dr. Pearlman: "She has platysmal banding [horizontal lines in the skin on the neck], something that happens with age, so she should have her neck done too."  This last minor ajustment should totally help Sarah maintain the prior beauty pageant glamour.

Michael Plank Strapped 15 Live Lizards To His Chest, Arrested At Airport: Authorities Say

Federal officials say they arrested a man who strapped 15 live lizards to his chest to get through customs at Los Angeles International Airport.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said Friday that 40-year-old Michael Plank of Lomita, Calif., was returning from Australia when U.S. Customs agents found two geckos, two monitor lizards and 11 skinks – another type of lizard – fastened to his body Tuesday.

Plank has been released on $10,000 bond and will be arraigned in federal court on Dec. 21.

Authorities say the lizards' value totals more than $8,500. All Australian reptiles are strictly regulated and Plank did not have a permit for them.

Galileo's Lost Tooth, Fingers Found By Italian Collector

Two fingers and a tooth removed from Galileo Galilei's corpse in a Florentine basilica in the 18th century and given up for lost have been found again and will soon be put on display, an Italian museum director said Friday.

Three fingers, a vertebra and a tooth were removed from the astronomer's body by admirers in 1737, 95 years after his death, as his corpse was being moved from a storage place to a monumental tomb – opposite that of Michelangelo, in Santa Croce Basilica in Florence.

One of the fingers was recovered soon afterward and is now part of the collection of the Museum of the History of Science, in Florence. The vertebra has been kept at the University of Padua, where Galileo taught for years.

But the tooth and two fingers from the scientist's right hand – the thumb and middle finger – were kept by one of the admirers, an Italian marquis, and later enclosed in a container that was passed on from generation to generation in the same family.
