I'm going to try and build some publicity and circulate information about the Mata Lagoon before its destroyed from ignorance.Current mentality for the lagoons is fill them and build on them. Understanding their importance is the goal.

Pass the word is all, info to all is the power of this.
The largest problem is not being aware.
http://matalagoon.blogspot.com/
Its just educating people as to the value of the Coastal Lagoons.
I believe if everyone understands their worth projects like this will fail.

Oxygen in the waters of the lagoons make the habitat alive. you can see on the google map the rust brown areas that have been cut of from water exchange have become dead zones.
A large concern about the road project is its becoming a dam for the water flow that literally keeps the lagoons alive.
The oxygen depletion (anoxia) allows sulfate reduction to take place. Consequently, hydrogen sulfide accumulates, provoking a large increase in the mortality of macrofaunal species that are the foundation for life in the Lagoon.
Look at the Google map again and notice the creek network between the blue alive lagoons and the rust brown color in the isolated ponds.

Good work Elbert. I hope something positive will come from this as this also applies to the massive lagoon destruction for the sewage pond subdivision.

the mangroves are very important, but i dont see the advantage
of the wildlife preservation being a big issue as it is what is keeping tourist away even after one visit, belize is far too littered with it and needs to confine these critters to areas
where they can be viewed for pleasure viewers and tree huggers,
your only exsisting as things are, not living.
The way of life as it stands today on the island is almost like the worlds welfare cases has populated it and are showing what talent they have( which is damm near nil).
I believe the next gov. will move things along and progress and cleasiness will provail.
The road to mexico and opening up the island is the ONLY WAY to get rid of voices like ELBERT who is not more than a lonely LOAD MOUTH with little to no education about THE NEED TO PROGRESS so the world can enjoy the bounty ambergris has to offer....

I too hope that "cleasiness provails..." (since this is only billybob's 3rd post, I suppose I'll cut him some slack and not get into his grammar.)

Is there perhaps a handy area where we can confine Billybob to for our viewing pleasure?
