I have booked Graniel twice, and have been very satisfied with him both times. He will go the distance (litterally) to put you on the best fish. Remember to tip well (especially if trolling all day) if you have a good day; gas is not cheap in Belize

Crocodiles in lagoon.....that's a helpful note to remember! Thanks for the input. Just looking at the island from outer space it appears that the "cut" in the reef would be a natural place for fish entering the inside. Any input on tides and current in this area or in general as it applies to fishing on AC. Most saltwater fishing revolves around that but I'm not reading about it much here. I'm wondering if that is as much of factor? Thanks guys!
Anyone have a link to maps with depth references of the surrounding waters?

flee-man, i suggest that its really fun to do at least one half day reef fishing trip with any one of these fine captains. it isnt even only about the fish. they will take you to beautiful locations on a beautiful day, help you catch snapper, trigger fish, barracuda...& will clean it for you if u want. you will see a dozen shades of aqua, mangrove islets, and the boat view of the south end of the island. even if you plan to fish off the dock, you should consider hiring a boat/guide/capt at least once. its FUN!

Most of the fishing guides here are knowledgeable and experienced. Don't go for the cheapest option as you may well end up with someone who isn't a real fishing guide. As Capt Jeff says, the prices here are very reasonable for a top notch guide. As far as the tides and the currents, your guide will have the best local knowledge and information.

The cut is a good spot. Low tide is a good time to see bones tailing. Your not going to find any charts, but sat images help find good spots.

Fisherman - I've fished with all 3 you mention. All are good. I went with Pete last time, he has two different boats a small one and a larger one. You pay extra for the bigger boat - it's nice and fairly new. I went to the other side of the reef with Hillyboo once in May; caught mostly barracuda.

Flee Man - I've seen snapper caught off piers near Captain Morgan's & Belezian Shores. Also if there are bouys tied up near the reef where you stay you might be able to kayak out, tie up, and fish near the reef. I've never tried that. Good luck.

I've found the tide chart but no depth map. I have noted the channel from the rio to the cut in the reef. It appears there may also be a breach in the reef in front of El Pescador or at least a deeper channel through that area. The idea of kayaking out to the reef did occur to me but I wasn't sure how realistic that was. I'd love to be able to find good areas to fish north of town since that is where I'm staying.
I appreciate the banter and will happily share my discoveries on this board after I return.
