You can cash a personal US cheque in Belize? I understand for Belizean dollars

If you can find anyone who'll honour it. I never found a bank here that would let me write them a cheque on my UK bank account.

US cheques shouldn't be a problem, I've deposited them at Belize Bank before.

When I tried to cash a US dollar cheque from a Canadian bank they couldn't deal with it because they had no way of clearing it. The same probably applies to the UK.

You might have to deposit the 24K if you have no visible means of support. If you are on a work permit and are working my experience is that you don't have to have funds on deposit. You just have to pay the standard fees for residency.

This sounds like the QRP (qualified retiree program) where they require that you bring at least $2,000 USD each month as a condition of remaining resident. I have made deposits that cover me by doing it all at once and there didn't seem to be any problem at all. Just be careful of the Belize $ versus US $ as I just found out you have to get permission from the Central bank to convert back to US dollars, pay a fee of some sort and some other charges.
