Sadly pods of dolphins are turning up dead in the Gulf of Mexico. This is unrelated to the thread, but I just had to express the sadness.

Less than 20 years ago in on a Caribbean Island I was in a fish market that had partial carcasses of Dolphins that they where cutting up to order for customers. It is not only the Japanese who eat these animals.

It is my understanding that in the above Island country they no longer do this where the tourist can see it. They also kill a whale or two occasionally to eat but I have never witnessed this although I was there quite a few times for extended stays. I have no idea if this practice goes on today.
