It's interesting that with all the flak and frankly hysteria over BP, which is incorrectly seen as a purely British company, there's no mention of the company which actually caused the disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, and they certainly aren't sticking their heads above the parapet. Transocean is an American company run and controlled by Americans, which to avoid paying US tax they decided to domicile in Switzerland. Given their involvement with most drilling operations around the globe I'd be surprised if they weren't involved in this Amazonian tragedy as well.

Yes, it's without doubt a mess, with poor communications and unclear lines of responsibility. About par for the course for a major international engineering project. Does rather put the onus on the government to get the mess sorted out by imposing effective regulation.

If we think the OIM is the Capitan of a ship here, and the BP company man is the one with the treasure map, then it may be a little clearer who should be making decisions about the safety of the ship in a storm.

Are you all aware that there is an important meeting tomorrow at the Radisson for stakeholders to look for ways to have impact on the oil drilling decision making? It is at 2-4 Tuesday
