Well whatever some US citizens think of football, there are thtee indisputable facts.
1. The Football World Cup now taking place in South Africa is the number one sporting event in the world with or without US participation.
2. A growing number of US citizens are taking up football (men women and children)
3. American citizens bought more tickets for this World Cup than any other nation.
I am sure the footballing world welcomes American to participate and as we have seen they have so far been very worthy of their countrymens support.

Everyone's first game in the world cup is always a defensive battle, teams go into the games with the "let's make sure we don't lose our first game" mentality. akin to the first round of a Heavyweight boxing match.

Who would have thought that none of England, Italy, Spain, Portugal, France could win a game and only score 2 goals between them.
None of the teams have really shown how they can play (except Germany but lets face it they were only playing the Aussies). Even Brazil struggled for 50 minutes to breakdown North Korea.

Now the competition really starts, things will open out. Teams will need to go for a win qualify for the next round I think we are going to see some very interesting games

I agree I have been really disappointed with the over defensive chess matches so far. We all hope for open, exciting, entertaining football but

So if all goes to plan its England to score 5 against Algeria and then another 4 against Slovenia
Mind you I would settle for 2 1-0 victories!!!

C'mon England

well i don't know what you're putting in your coffee (5 v algeria and 4 v Slovenia ??) but can I have some? more to the point can you get some to our team?
Agree with your analysis. Its important not to peak too soon, there's a long way to go

Algeria is ranked 30th--should be a walk in the park for ENG.
I am of Scottish decent so tomorrow I root for the Britts.
I was glad to see Chili win--first win in 48 years!!!They must have been bouncing off the walls down there in Santiago. They probably still are knowing how the latinos go!! Good for them. Manana here on the island with the MEX match there will be TV's in the streets and no one will come back to work from lunch if they win.
