A HUGE part of the economic problem the USA is having now is because of the refusal of the repubes to even step to the plate. They would rather the country stay in a depression, if they can win the white house.
If they would compromise, or at least ALLOW VOTES TO OCCUR IN THE SENATE, the economic situation would improve. They have their foot on the neck of economic recovery and could give a shit that the country is dying.
It's treasonous.
While its human nature to become upset when ones ideals are rejected, let's not ignore some facts?
It was not that Republicans did not step up...it was far more that the plate was blocked!
Democrats had the majority needed to pass anything unilaterally and could not get their ducks in line...
On healthcare, Paul Ryan offered up a comprehensive plan for consideration that included medical tort reform, portability of insurance and many other key points that were ignored in a 2000+ page bill that was voted on before it was read...
Finance reform that ignores Fanny and Freddie? What is the point, and yet any attempts to include such language was blocked... . (not by republicans, by the way!): compromise is not something that can be achieved by just one party!
Until the Scott Brown election, Democrats not only had control of The White House and both houses, they also had a filibuster proof majority....much of what has been pushed through this last 2 years happened without any input from republicans.
What last night showed was that the country rejected the direction the Obama/Pelosi/Reid were taking it in....
Good candidates, like Rubio, Johnson and Kirk will bring a new approach to Washington, while weaker candidates like Angle and O'Donnell who were in very "winable" races were exposed as not fit for the job.
The fact that Rubio out polled Christ and Meeks combined, while Murkowski seems to have defeated Miller as a write in highlights this, but it is an unfortunate by product of a primary system which allows a very small minority of politically engaged voters to determine who the rest of their party gets to choose between.
The country is still very divided at the extremes....29% of South Carolinians voted for a guy who seemingly would have had trouble entering his own name on a write in ballot, and the stunningly unprepared and incompetent O'Donnell got way to many votes based on the (r) next to her name, not on her ability to effect change….
Which can only confirm that this election was a referenda on the direction in which Obama has been taking the country….. and that the mandate is now with the republicans to change this direction…… if they don't it will be all change again in 2012
Cap and Tax will now be off the table, Card Check will be shelved and The Bush Tax Cuts will be extended, giving business a more stable environment in which to invest their cash reserves and create jobs in 49 states of the union
One last though……California……WTF?
