Belize Task Force reports the following:
1) Tropic Air has begun flights out of San Pedro to Belize Municipal Airport.
2) Municipal Airport is becoming overcrowded as there is little or no transportation due to the severe flooding and road damage in and around the city.
3) Unconfirmed report that workers are being dispatched to San Pedro to repair electrical lines and restore the islands independent generator power. This would actually make San Pedro better off than much of the mainland.
4) Some are reporting into the US Embassy who reports that individual messages from these people to their families carry the theme of all is ok.
5) Continental and American Airlines are reporting plans to resume flights out of Belize International tomorrow using their larger 757 aircraft.
6) State Department is considering the use of charter flights if Continental and American are unable to handle the demand.
7) US Embassy in Belize is asking people to consider remaining on the island for awhile if they have the option due to the conditions in Belize City.
8) Those who have contacted me directly with health and welfare requests:
Your information has been forwarded to the US Office of Crisis Management, Belize Task Force who has direct contact with the US Embassy in Belize.

Marty,
Wayne and I would like to send some of the things requested on the "Wishlist". What is the best way to do this? I would imagine mail is either a very slow option or not an option at all. We are in Chicago and not sceduled to go down until November 2. We are happy to bring as much as we can then but again would be happy to send stuff ASAP. If anyone is leaving from Chicago or nearby please E-mail me at EvaHope@aol.com and let me know.
God Bless you all--
Eva and Wayne

there have been many personal homes
damaged
or destroyed and quite a few San Pedro residents are homeless. The resorts
on Ambergris Caye which were able to house these residents are opening
their doors to them so they will have a place to stay. There is a
need
for tents, cots, blankets and basic necessities.
