Lately I've noticed some concern and effort on their part to be a better service.

One would hope so, seems like it would be disastrous to get a poor businees rep on the island.

Since we're talking about banking has anyone had any experience with Atlantic Bank and/or obtaining an international credit card through any of the local banks as a non resident?

Belize Bank seems to do everything I need, but I don't know anything about nonresident restrictions/problems.

There are many more restrictions now than 4 years ago when we opened our first account with Belize Bank. One would think that Belize would welcome incoming funds, but I suspect the USA is behind the scenes here.

All I can say is, if you wish to open a new bank account in Belize and wish to transfer funds, etc, get ready to show them your skid marks!

Ha! They can examine my shorts all they want Snoops, we're filing everything so we have nothign to hide. I dont really care how much paperwork I have to file as long as I'm told what I need to submit the first time and they let me know if it's complete. I can even deal with lengthy processing times, I just dont want to find out that it couldnt get processed because i was missing something or that the approach I wanted to take, and was initially told was okay, doesnt pass Central bank's review because the local rep didnt know the rules.

I opened a bank account with Scotia (Placencia branch) 6 years ago with no problem. I guess things have changed as far as ease of opening an account, maybe? But I've never had any problem banking with them.

I wish I had seen this before sending my application materials to Scotiabank. It took multiple emails and finally two phone calls to get someone to respond. I finally have a person to deal with who usually responds within 48 hours to my emails and has taken ownership of the situation.

I will be in San Pedro mid-October to open accounts but will bring duplicates of ALL documentation so I can go to another bank as well in case there is a problem. I'll let ya'll know what happens. I specifically chose Scotiabank because they are everywhere in Latin America and have such a great reputation in the States.
