You ask to be put up in a hotel. When they give you the voucher for the hotel you ask for vouchers for dinner dinner and breakfast the next day. When you get that you ask how long you are going to be stuck at the airport before they take you to your hotel and if it is more than one hour you askk for a voucher for a meal right then.

I travel AA all the time and learned all these tricks when traveling with a business man who knew all the ropes.

At this time of year everyone starts scaling back their flights and it's too bad so many people get stuck in the jam. Just get on island time and smile and say please and thank you and start your vacation then and there.

ours was cancelled last week due to "weather in Belize". Similarly, our friends' flight yesterday was cancelled due to "weather in Belize" - both days "severe clear".

Airlines are not responsable for "WEATHER". If there is a cloud in the sky they will pull out the "WEATHER" card.

A few more weeks, and AA will go back to the 7x flights per week DFW-BZE.

That 12:50 flt. never gets canceled, except for weather or mechanical.

MIA is such a hell hole anyways.

Thankfully our flights in January are LGA/DFW/BZE on the way down, and BZE/MIA/LGA on the return. I would prefer to be delayed leaving than trying to get to our vacation destination. Agree with DC, Miami is awful. On other vacation forums I've read that the TSA in Miami has sticky fingers when it comes to "inspecting" checked luggage.

With regard to the sticky fingers, it probably isn't the TSA. I lost a camera in January and it's probably the baggage handlers for AA. AA didnt quible, they just bought me a new one.

Miami airport is renowned for thieving baggage handlers.

Thank you for the clarification, my apologies to TSA! In any case, it's best not to put anything of value in your checked bag if you can help it, especially when going into/through Miami.
