What about a dog whistle? Don't know much about that sort of thing but wouldn't it serve to get the dogs away from you and/or otherwise distracted?

Just the opposite......a dog whistle is a silent whistle that only puts out a frequency that a dog can hear to attract a dog to you.

Me wrong.......it can afflict pain to a dogs ears.....so guess it would make them want to get the hell away!

I thought it would confuse them if they weren't trained. In any event, if attracting them wouldn't that mean they'd be um er attracted and therefore not bite?

Has anyone tried an airhorn in a can? It is so loud it scares dogs half to death, but does not hurt them. Just a short blast will do the trick. The only (big) problem is that you will scare yourself and half the neighborhood too. Probably not good at night unless you want to scare some bad guys.

Otoh might get dog owners to control their dogs!!

They gotta care first, thats really the issue.
