I guess Progress or Progre$$ is relative to ones thinking. Personally, I liked it 40 years ago when Peter Hancock's was the only house in Tres Cocos before there was a need for a bridge and people building there and then complaining about not having their privacy and having their fences and landscaping removed from a public rightaway. I wish the mangroves were still there that were removed by those building their houses wanting their "privacy". frown

Well said. I remember when Journeys End was the furthest resort North, no bridge just a pull ferry, used to go up North every sunday and sit on any beach you liked, have a bar-b-que and a few beers, now you cant even get to some of the beaches.
It is a shame but things cant stay the same for ever, some people on this island are only interested in protecting their personal income or investments.......Im sure a fence that had to be removed will not effect the rental of that property(I mean his peace and quite)

I have difficulty understanding the rationale, notice I did not say lack of intelligence, when people come to the most popular tourist destination in Belize and are part of creating the demand for development, more condos, more homes, etc. where the infrastructure is lacking and then whine when attempts are made to provide the infrastructure because it affects their privacy. Maybe they should buy a private island, or at least become more rational or more - no I won't say that.
But suggesting the mayor and town board are doing something illegal because the people they bought from told them the fence was within the property, makes me think they lack something not as simple as rationale.

It takes more than a fence to have much privacy there any more....

E, if I lived on an island....any island...I would feel like I was in a fishbowl....that's all I'm saying! It works for a lot of folks, but I like roaming without any "radar". lol

HELLO - My complaint was that we were not given notice. The notices were given out further south towards the bridge.
Who said everyone north wanted this?
The land speculators and big developers who come in and build their 'resort' and don't put in any infrastructural are the ones who want it; not the individual land owners who purchased properties because it was not 'slick'.
Can you also understand that survey stakes are not always where imagined. I built to the obvious stake. When the guys dug up my rock wall they found the official stake about 8" underground and about 8' back.
You guys have beat up enough on Maya House - my friend Lisa - and either forgot or didn't know or don't care - but she is not the one who built the house - she bought it already constructed. She had simply landscaped around it.
Would you all rather have looked at 8 to 10' of weeds and rubbish between our official property and the then existing cart path for the last ten or so years?
My comment about the mayor was about TRANSPARECY. To me that means being open and straightforward about what is being planned, how much it will cost and where the money is coming from.
All this ho-ha could have been avoided if our elected officials would get . . . . and put in place a master plan. How long has this fight been going on?
With nothing set in concrete I know a guy who would be happy to build a pig farm next to your million dollar casa. Could we call that progress?
